Head of Unit R4

Costas Andropoulos graduated from York University in Canada with Masters Degrees in Economics and in Project Evaluation Techniques and Regulation.
In January 1981, after a short period of work in the banking sector in Athens, he joined the European Commission.

He spent fifteen years in DG Competition dealing with state aid issues, his latest position being a Head of Unit responsible for state aids in the shipbuilding, steel and non ferrous metals industries.
During the period 1986 - 1988 he was detached to the Ministry of Industry in Athens, Greece, where he dealt with issues relating to state aids to undertakings in difficulty.

As of 1996 he joined DG Enterprise and Industry where he has been heading successive units dealing with the competitiveness of maritime, aeronautics, space, defence, rail and, since 2004, the ICT industries.
